Life Insurance Awareness Month reminds us how unpredictable life can be and that the best time to protect your loved ones from financial instability is now. Boomer Esiason may be known as a record-setting NFL quarterback and sportscaster, but the early road to success was not easy for this former Long Island native and his family.
At 7, Boomer lost his mother, Irene, 37, to cancer. To make matters worse, she had no life insurance. With no wife or the financial resources to acquire child care, Boomer's father, Norman, had to balance a three-hour daily work commute to and from New York City against the parental needs of his son and two teenage daughters. With the support of relatives and friends, the Esiason Family managed to find the essential time needed to return to a healthy routine.
Boomer says that youthful lesson wasn't lost on him. "Growing up with one parent ... wasn't the easiest life," he says. "My dad sacrificed a lot." Today, Boomer Esiason is national spokesperson for Life Insurance Awareness Month. Read Boomers Real Life story about planning for his own family's future.
