"When I get my license" We know these five simple words mean very different things to teens and their parents. If you're a teen, you can't wait for the freedom having your license can bring. If you're a parent, however, the thought of your "baby" behind the wheel strikes fear deep into your heart. Make no mistake, the teen driving years can be difficult for both teens and parents. That's why we developed the teen driving program "Avoiding Collisions: How to Survive the Teenage Driving Years" for teens and parents. The program explores the four main causes of teen driving deaths: speeding, not wearing safety belts, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and night driving. Using testimonials from real kids and parents, the program prompts family discussion with questions and driving facts. The program can help teens and parents agree on driving rules, curfews, and more. You can borrow a copy of the full video program with companion brochure from our offices. In the meantime, you can get started right now by viewing our Avoiding Collisions brochure here. And while your family is together, you also may want to print out and sign the Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) Contract for Life. The contract requires a promise from each family member (teen and parent) never to drive drunk. It's also a good springboard to a discussion on driving safety. |
