24 Hour Claims Service If you have an accident… No one wants to be in an accident. We have some helpful tips on preventing accidents in our Car and Road Safety section---Some of which may also reduce your premium. Unfortunately, accidents sometimes happen. If you are involved in an accident, there are some important things you should do. Following the steps below will help us to help you. 1) Safety First. Your personal safety and the safety of the other people involved in the accident is the most important thing to consider. If possible, pull off to the side of the road. Do not attempt to move anyone who is injured. 2) Call the police. Call the police department and ask for assistance. Also request an ambulance if anyone is injured. 3) Exchange information with the other driver(s). Ask to see the vehicle registration card and record the name and address of the vehicle owner, license plate number, insurance company and policy number. Ask for the driver’s name, address and phone, if different from the owner. Record the number of occupants in the other vehicle and obtain their names and addresses if possible. 4) Obtain witnesses information. If anyone witnessed the accident or stops at the scene, obtain their name, address and phone number. 5) Get as much information as possible. In some areas, the police separate the drivers and you may not have an opportunity to exchange information. If that happens, you should record the license plate number and make and model of the other vehicle. Also, ask for the police officer’s name, precinct and accident report number so we can follow up for any information you were not able to collect at the scene. 6) Do not admit fault. You should explain your version of the accident to the police officer, but do not admit you are at fault to the officer or the other party. We will fully investigate the accident to determine your responsibility. Any statements you make at the scene may prevent us from claiming some responsibility of the other driver. 7) Report all accidents. Don’t agree if the other driver asks you not to report the accident to your insurance company. Failure to report all accidents timely could result in a coverage problem especially if you are sued later on and never gave us notification of the accident. 8) Call us as soon as possible. Call our claims office reporting number 1-800-713-7379 24-hours a day. Just give us the information and leave the rest to us. Our Claims Representatives will explain the entire process and make all necessary arrangements to expedite your claim during the first call. Thank you for insuring with Liberty Mutual!
