Self-esteem booster for kids
Be Active Tip: Exercise makes kids feel better... on the inside.
According to Journal of Pediatric Psychology, children in the study felt better just by getting up and moving. The study focused on fun activities that increase heart rate, such as running games, jumping rope, basketball and soccer and typically included short bursts of intense activity. Participants in these activities reported feeling better about themselves.
Use your head!
Be Active Tip: Include your kids when selecting their helmet and let them personalize it.
Stickers are one way of helping them put a safe mark on their gear. Research conducted over the past 20 years shows that children under age 15 are more likely to suffer a head injury while skiing or snowboarding than any other age group. For kids in this group, a helmet can prevent or reduce the severity of the injury by 53%.
We did it!
Be Active Tip: Help your success rate by setting goals
with a friend.
A new study in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology shows that when you share a triumph with someone else, like finishing a 5K or even surviving one killer abs class, your perceived value of that event increases and you may become more invested in it.
10 minutes is all you need!
Be Active Tip: Instead of checking-in online, grab a friend, get social, and go for walk. Even if you are walking around the mall... it counts!
The CDC suggests trying a brisk walk for 10 minutes, three times a day, 5 days a week. This will give you moderate exercise you need to stay healthy.
Sleeping, Eating and Exercise... Oh My!
Be Active Tip: Timing when you eat and exercise can help you sleep better.
Follow these tips to better prepare for a good night's sleep.
7-8 hours of sleep is ideal for adults.
It's play time!
Be Active Tip: Get the whole family moving and laughing with "old school" games like hopscotch, TV tag, and hula-hoop. Being active should be fun, not a "workout."
