Liberty Benefit Program — Connecticut Crumbling Foundations

Liberty Mutual Insurance, Safeco Insurance and their affiliates* have created a $7 million fund to assist customers in Connecticut who are experiencing deterioration of their foundation due to defective concrete. This fund is called the Liberty Benefit Program.

The Liberty Benefit Program is designed to supplement the funds provided by Connecticut Foundation Solutions Indemnity Company, Inc. (CFSIC).

Liberty Mutual, Safeco and their affiliates* partnered with CFSIC to provide additional relief to eligible current and former customers if their repair costs exceed their CFSIC benefit.

Background

Approximately 35,000 homes in the north, east and central parts of Connecticut are facing potentially crumbling foundations due to the presence of pyrrhotite, a naturally occurring iron sulfide that causes concrete foundations to weaken and crack over time.
