Frequently asked questions
Is there a cost associated with the device or program?
The RightTrack app is free but similar to other apps on your phone, it utilizes data. Applicable data charges will be the responsibility of the smartphone owner.
Can I transfer the discount when I add or replace a vehicle on my policy?
Yes. If you change or add new vehicles at any point, we will apply your RightTrack discount to those vehicles. Please contact Liberty Mutual for assistance with changing or adding vehicles.
Which driving behaviors does RightTrack observe?
The RightTrack discount is based on the following driving behaviors: total miles driven, nighttime driving, braking, and acceleration.
How can I view my driving information and the projected premium discount?
At any time during the 90-day review period, you can review your driving patterns and see your projected current premium savings by monitoring the Dashboard and the Savings Details pages of the RightTrack app.
How is my projected savings calculated?
Upon enrollment in the RightTrack program, you will be rewarded with an initial discount. At the end of the review period, your final discount will replace your initial discount and will apply for the lifetime of the enrolled vehicle on your policy. Your projected yearly savings is calculated by adding your premium discount during your review period with your trending discount prorated for the remainder of your policy term.
Will the discount be applicable for the life of my policy?
Yes, your final RightTrack discount will apply to your vehicle, or its replacement, for the life of your policy.
How soon do I have to begin the review period after I enroll?
After you've signed the RightTrack Terms & Conditions, we suggest you download the app within 2 days. You have 21 days to successfully activate and install your tag device to remain eligible for a discount. The review period begins once you link your phone and tag device.
Can all vehicles participate in Liberty Mutual’s RightTrack program?
All private passenger vehicles, regardless of year, make, model, and engine type, are eligible for the RightTrack program.
How do I add an operator or vehicle to participate in Liberty Mutual’s RightTrack mobile program?
To add an operator or vehicle to participate in RightTrack, please contact customer support at 1-866-274-0892.
Can I opt out of the program before completing the review period?
Yes. You can opt out at any time during the 90-day review period by contacting Liberty Mutual. Your insurance coverage will continue, but your initial discount will be removed from your policy and your premium will be adjusted to reflect this change.
How do I properly activate/link my device?
In the RightTrack app, navigate to the tag linking flow from the notification on your Dashboard or from the vehicle module on the Savings Details page. Follow the cues within the app to:
- Select which vehicle to link device to.
- Activate the tag by holding down the button in the top corner for 3 seconds, until the red light begins to flash.
- Verify the tag you wish to link by confirming the serial number located on the sticker on the side of the tag.
- Follow the prompts to secure the device on the windshield in your linked vehicle.
How do I properly install my device?
Consult the visual on the tag linking successful screen or in the program manual you received with your device. You should use the adhesive on the tag to stick it to your windshield, somewhere behind the rearview mirror. The tag must be on a stationary surface in order to get an accurate measurement of driving events.
What do I do if my tag is not working properly or damaged?
If it appears that your device is not working properly or may have been damaged, please contact customer support at 1-866-274-0892 or email RightTrack@LibertyMutual.com for assistance.
How do I register in Liberty Mutual's RightTrack app?
Once you enroll in RightTrack and download the app, you'll need to enter your Activation code provided to you in the Welcome Email you received at the email address you provided when applying for your policy. You'll then need to confirm your date of birth and create an account using your email address and a password.
Does every listed operator need to download the RightTrack app?
No, but in order to get the most accurate data and driver/passenger distinction, we encourage every driver with a smartphone to download the RightTrack app and participate.
What kind of phone do I need to use the RightTrack app?
You need either an iPhone (iOS 11.0 or later) or an Android Phone (version 5.0 or later). GPS and Bluetooth capabilities must be available on your phone. Please contact your local Liberty Mutual office or call 1-800-295-2820 with eligibility questions.
What determines which smiley face I see?
Variations in the smiley faces are determined by your driving performance. On the dashboard, you'll see smileys noting how you are performing in the categories of hard braking and hard accelerating. On the trip log and trip details screens, you'll see smileys noting your overall trip performance based on the number of events recorded for that individual trip.
How do I change my status on a trip from driver to passenger?
If you go into the trip list, and tap on the "Driver" status, it will change that trip to "Passenger." Trips operated by others will still count toward your vehicle's discount but, because you were not the one driving, it will not impact your individual performance stats.
Do I need to open the RightTrack app so it can collect my driving data?
No, so long as the RightTrack app is installed and you have GPS and Bluetooth on, the tag will be able to link to your phone in order to collect your driving behavior.
What do I do if my RightTrack app isn't working properly?
If you suspect that the RightTrack app is not working properly, ensure you have downloaded the latest version from the app store and please uninstall and reinstall the app, logging in with your account credentials. Or call Liberty Mutual at 1-866-274-0892.
What is the impact on my battery using Liberty Mutual's RightTrack app?
The amount of battery used depends on the model of your phone. The RightTrack app uses about the same amount of battery as other driving navigation apps. We recommend charging your phone while driving if you’re taking a long trip. Trip recording will automatically stop when your phone’s battery life is at 20% and below or when battery save mode is on.
Why are my location services always on?
Your location services and Bluetooth must be on while you're driving in order to properly record trip data
My driving trips aren't showing up in my RightTrack app. What could be wrong?
Be sure your Bluetooth and GPS are on in order to allow your phone to sync to the tag and upload trips for scoring. If trips are still not showing up, ensure you've properly activated and linked your tags. If you still experience issues, call Liberty Mutual at 1-866-274-0892.
What does "GPS off" mean?
When a trip shows up in the trip log as "GPS off," this means that the tag could not connect to a phone and gather GPS data during a trip. In order to allow for the most accurate data collection, make sure your phone is with you while you drive and GPS and Bluetooth are powered on.
Why don't I see a recent Trip?
Make sure you allow 24 hours for a trip to be processed and scored before showing up in your trip log. "GPS off" trips may take up to 48 hours to process. If you still are missing trips, make sure your Bluetooth and GPS are on in order to allow your phone to sync to the tag and upload trips for scoring.
I am changing my phone, how do I continue to participate in RightTrack?
In order to continue with the RightTrack program, simply download the RightTrack app from the app store on your new phone, be it Apple or Android. Once downloaded, follow the steps to login. Once you've successfully logged in, you will be able to continue using the app.
How much data will the RightTrack app need?
Data usage varies depending on the amount of engagement with the RightTrack app. From a strictly trip capture standpoint, the app uploads about 500-600KB of data per hour of driving. If you were to drive 1 hour/day for a month, it would equate to 18MB of data, a small fraction of a typical US data plan. To minimize the amount of data the RightTrack app uses, go to the Data page under Settings within the app and toggle "Upload my trip data to wifi" on. This will only restrict data usage for sending your trips to Liberty for processing. Your phone will still use data during trip capture.
How is my data used?
A complete list of collected data can be viewed at https://www.libertymutual.com/telematics-data. This list will be updated as the data changes. The data we collect will not affect either policy cancellation or nonrenewal. We may retain the collected data indefinitely, subject to state requirements. We may use the data in connection with any insurance claim, including for purposes of reporting, investigating and adjusting such claim(s). We may use the data on an aggregated basis for research purposes. We reserve the right to collect data as long as the technology is in use and may retain the collected data as allowed by law. How is my data protected?
Liberty Mutual will not sell the data collected through participation in RightTrack. We may use the data as permitted by law, including for purposes of adjusting your auto insurance premium, servicing your policy, providing services related to RightTrack, developing rate or premium information, developing other services and benefits to offer to you or other customers, or for research. Please refer to the terms and conditions for additional details on how Liberty Mutual protects your privacy.
Is my data continuously collected?
No, your driving data is only collected when your tag detects vehicle movement. Your phone only uses location services when GPS and Bluetooth are on to link to the tag.
